Candombe

Candombe is a festive exhibition of music and dance, it is at the heart of the Uruguayan folklore, with roots tracking back to Africa.As a child I vividly remember how every February during Carnival season our parents would take us to parade. I was always hypnotised by the bright radiating colours of the musicians’ and dancers’ costumes and the fascinating combination of that display with multilayered drum music. in this painting I seek to combine culture, music and dance and convey the joy and elevated energy of the Carnival.
